Surfers Against Sewage is a marine conservation charity working with communities to protect oceans, beaches and green spaces across the UK.

This July, Planty is donating 50% of its profits to Surfers Against Sewage to support their plastic-free initiatives.

"Plastic Free Communities" for example is a community network that they founded to tackle single-use plastic from beaches and green spaces all the way back to the brands and businesses who create it. The network has local community hubs dotted all over the country to bring people together on a journey to tackle avoidable single-use plastic.

Surfers Against Sewage is not only about organising local clean-ups and removing all plastic from our lives, but also about kicking our plastic addiction through systemic change. Started as a grassroots movement in Cornwall, the charity has grown into one of the UK’s most active and successful environmental charities thanks to its two-pronged approach:

  • Stopping the problem at source: by tackling society’s throwaway culture when it comes to single-use plastics, they aim to change consumer behaviour and industry standards. They empower local community leaders, educate schools and councils, while also providing business owners with toolkits and other resources to reduce their plastic impact

  • Cleaning up pollution: they organise more beach cleans than any other charity in the UK, alongside green space clean-ups thanks to its nationwide network of Plastic Free Communities.

Whether you're someone who wants to shift your consumption or volunteer your free time, or a business owner, school or council leader rethinking your organisation's impact, we can only tackle plastic if our whole community works together.
